This group was created to be America's answer to the Beatles. That's an improper start, for no one holds a candle to that high standard. Nevertheless, the group learned to play their own instruments and gave us great songs in their own right. The Monkees took this song written by Neil Diamond and turned it into a #1 song of seven weeks:
