New Unknown/Underrated Song--"I Got You" from Split Enz

We all have our own individual tastes, but this is one of my favorites that will be included in The Top Unknown/Underrated Songs of the Rock Era*.  My own tastes aside, I try to select songs that most people will like and I evaluate them the same way I did as Music Director of KFXD.  Although one never knows when a song is first released if it will be popular, the goal is that every song you play should reach the Top 10.   Thus, in my professional opinion, every song added to the Unknown/Underrated vault would have been a Top 10 hit had it received the proper airplay from radio.

This New Zealand band led by Neil Finn gave us this great song in the height of the New Wave period of the Rock Era.  They would later become Crowded House, who you will know from their song "Don't Dream It's Over".  They recorded this one, however, under the name Split Enz.

"I Got You"
by Split Enz

I got you - that's all I want
I won't forget - that's a whole lot
I don't go out - now that you're in
Sometimes we shout - but that's no problem

I don't know why sometimes I get frightened
You can see my eyes, you can tell that I'm not lyin'
I don't know why sometimes I get frightened
You can see my eyes, you can tell that I'm not lyin'

Look at you - you're a pageant
You're everything - that I've imagined
Something's wrong - I feel uneasy
You show me - tell me you're not teasin'

I don't know why sometimes I get frightened
You can see my eyes, and tell that I'm not lyin'
I don't know why sometimes I get frightened
You can see my eyes, you can tell that I'm not lyin'

There's no doubt - not when I'm with you
When I'm without - I stay in my room
Where do you go - I get no answer
You're always out - it gets on my nerves

I don't know why sometimes I get frightened
You can see my eyes you can tell that I'm not lying
I don't know why sometimes I get frightened
You can see my eyes, you can tell that I'm not lyin'
I don't know why sometimes I get frightened
You can see my eyes, you can tell that I'm not lying
