Tribute to Glenn Frey: "Already Gone"

By 1973, the Eagles had recorded two albums and collected five early hits.  But they had yet to soar.  That too would soon change.

While working on their third album, the group made a significant change that would greatly affect their success.  Members of the Eagles yearned to record a more hard rock sound, while producer Glyn Johns wanted to emphasize their country-influenced rock sound.  After recording two songs, the Eagles fired Johns, moved back to California, and hired producer Bill Szymczyk.

Right away, Szymcyk made a difference.  He suggested a harder-edged guitarist to play slide guitar on the song "Good Day In Hell".  Bernie Leadon suggested his friend Don Felder.  After hearing Leadon's work, the group invited him to become the fifth Eagle.

The legendary group's third album, On the Border, contained another of The Top Unknown/Underrated Songs of the Rock Era*.  "Already Gone" only reached #32.  Frey co-wrote the song with Jackson Browne, Jack Tempchin and Robb Strandlund.  The song was one of the first and still is one of the best examples of the Eagles' incredible harmonies, some of the best the world has ever heard...
