Garth Brooks at the Wynn

The second act we saw this weekend in Las Vegas was Garth Brooks. After we had booked our trip several months ago, he announced two dates that just happened to be this weekend--must have been meant to be for I had always wanted to see him.

It was a unique show by a one of a kind artist. There was no band--just Garth, his guitar, and his stories. He told of his upbringing and musical influences ...and was hilarious throughout. Having George Strait, James Taylor, and Bob Seger as your influences produces an amazing, unique sound, and when you are blessed with a voice as amazing as Garth, and then use it in such a way that can transcend country and bring that music to the masses, you are a legend.
Like the other two artists we saw, Garth is just a terrific person. There are precious few people who can attain superstar status and come out of it still grounded and still humble. That has to be credited to his parents, and we should all make instilling great values in our children our number one priority--that's the one thing each of us can do to make the world a better place.

The only way to see a better artist today would be if you knew some amazing seance that I don't think is possible. There are two acts in the history of the planet who have sold more records that the incredible Garth--the Beatles and Elvis Presley, and we can't see those guys anymore. Garth took country music and gave it a different sound; he brought it to the masses in a way no one had before or since. In so doing, he gave a voice to people from the country and from the South, he told their thoughts, hopes and dreams in a way that only he through the grace of God could do.

And in doing that, we all are able to understand people that might not be exactly like us, and admire their lives and lifestyles and values. Understanding people different from us is the key to a better world, and in liking artists as incredible as Garth makes us realize that we're not all that different after all.
