Several websites report that on May 19, 1981, Sting won the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year. This is not true--Ben Findon won Songwriter of the Year in 1981, and not only did Sting not win any Novello Award, Sting has never won Songwriter of the Year at the Novello Awards.
Sting won Best Pop Song of the Year in 1982 for "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", and he won three times in the category of Best Song Musically or Lyrically--in 1984 for "Every Breath You Take" (which also won the award for Most Performed Work), in 1989 for "The Dance Alone", and in 1994 for "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You". Sting also won the Novello for Most Performed Work for "I'll Be Missing You" by Puff Daddy, which utilized the song "Every Breath You Take", and an International Achievement Award in 2002.
