You will no doubt be hearing plenty about this all over the globe, but you heard about the 60th birthday of rock & roll first here, because, after all, we are Inside The Rock Era!
Yep, on July 9th, 1955, Billy Haley & the Comets reached #1, the first rock & roll song to do so, thus ushering in what we have come to know as the Rock Era. It has been one wild ride, has it not? The highs of the Summer of Love and Woodstock to the lows such as Altamount, the far-too-early deaths of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Otis Redding, Jim Croce, and far too many others.
In between, though, have been some awesome musical memories, in fact, the soundtrack to our lives. Katy Perry recently scored the 1000th #1 on the Billboard chart, and there are hundreds if not thousands more keepers in the Rock Era.
Of course, Inside The Rock Era has only begun to prepare for this magical birthday, featuring The Top 200 Songs of the 60's*, The Top Female Artists of the Rock Era*, The Top 100 Artists of the 70's*, and currently, The Top Love Songs of the Rock Era*. Inside The Rock Era will be your home for the big 60th birthday bash of rock & roll!
Once the love songs special completes, it will be full steam ahead to our signature music special, The Top 500 Songs of the Rock Era*! The thing that is great about that, and even more so with the passage of time, is it is a fantastic comparison of the great songs over the years. How does Elvis Presley's "Don't Be Cruel", for example, compare to Pharell Williams' big recent hit "Happy"? How many songs of Billy Joel, Elton John, and Celine Dion are in The Top 500*?
You have not heard anything like it, unless you've heard my Top 500 specials before. Because radio has become so segmented, no other place on earth is it possible to hear The Top 500 Songs of the Rock Era* one right after the other. Unless you really, really love music, we don't expect you to like every song--those are the ones loved by your friend, your next door neighbor, your son or daughter, or your mother or grandmother. But because the time period now covers 60 years, thereby raising the quality of the songs in The Top 500* as well as simultaneously putting you in the time machine of your life, we do trust that you will be enlightened as to the amazing popularity of these 500 songs that have stood the test of time. They cover just about every kind of music popular in the last 60 years by artists as diverse as ABBA and Led Zeppelin.
We are more than halfway through fine-tuning the Calendar*, so that when finished later this year, there will be no better similar offerings on the planet, bar none. We will also strive to update the YouTube videos on three of our popular regular features: The Top Unknown/Underrated Songs of the Rock Era*, Top Tracks*, and Five Best Songs*.
We have other exciting things planned as well, but definitely the focus will be on The Top 500 Songs*. Tell your friends and family about it--it is our treat!
The Top 500 Songs of the Rock Era* kicks off April 1 on Inside The Rock Era!
