Steppenwolf formed in Los Angeles in 1967, after former members of the Toronto, Ontario, Canadian group Sparrow moved there. The name Steppenwolf was from Herman Hesse's novel of the same name. The group is one day away from the anniversary of one of their first high-profile shows--they opened for the Doors at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles July 5, 1968.
