I had the privilege to see Boyz II Men in concert this past weekend at the Mirage in Las Vegas, Nevada and they were sen-sational. They are of course known for their great songwriting and vocal abilities, and if there's a group that can sing better A Cappella, I'm not aware of them. The group had one song, "End of the Road", which spent 13 weeks at #1, another, "I'll Make Love To You", that spent 14 weeks at #1, and "One Sweet Day", with Mariah Carey, that spent 16 weeks at #1. There only four acts in the history of mankind that have accumulated 50 total weeks at #1--the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Mariah, and Boyz II Men--that's it.
The group is adept at switching lead singers throughout a song, and they all are so amazing. Plus, they are just great guys and great entertainers. During "I'll Make Love To You", they traditionally each come out with a dozen roses, which they hand out during the song to women who crowd in front of the stage.
The group also did a great tribute and montage of other Motown groups such as the Temptations, Four Tops and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. They also suggested that there isn't music like that anymore, and they're spot on. When Boyz II Men say that, today's artists better sit up and take notice. We sat around the pool the next day and listened to an hour of songs that sounded like it was one song that could have had an endless loop. The exact same beat with the same sound and worthless lyrics.
Yep, so glad to have experienced Boyz II Men.
