The Top Unknown/Underrated Songs of the Rock Era*: "Tuesday Afternoon" by the Moody Blues

People used to say this amazing group was way ahead of its time.  If you go by how many of their songs were underrated by the chart methodologies of the time, one would have to say they were one of the most underrated groups of all-time.  I've seen them in concert, and the talent and versatility of the band is beyond compare.  Here's a rock & roll band that can do ballads with the best of them--they even did their masterpiece Days of Future Passed with an orchestra!

Hard to believe 45 years later, but what we consider today to be a classic--"Tuesday Afternoon" only reached #24 in 1968:
Tuesday Afternoon
Moody Blues

Lyrics and Music by Justin Hayward

Tuesday, afternoon,
I'm just beginning to see,
Now I'm on my way,
It doesn't matter to me,
Chasing the clouds away.

Something, calls to me,
The trees are drawing me near,
I've got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh.

I'm looking at myself, reflections of my mind,
It's just the kind of day to leave myself behind,
So gently swaying thru the fairy-land of love,
If you'll just come with me and see the beauty of

Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday, afternoon,
I'm just beginning to see,
Now I'm on my way,
It doesn't matter to me,
Chasing the clouds away.

Something, calls to me,
The trees are drawing me near,
I've got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh.
