A&M was "Indie" before "Indie" was fashionable.
Herb Alpert & Jerry Moss formed the label in 1962 to compete amongst the giants of its time--Columbia, Capitol, Warner Brothers, and RCA. And compete it did, signing some of the top recording artists of all-time and churning out hits and quality albums over several decades.
Sadly, a deal that Alpert & Moss made went south and now the great independent A&M Records is no more, another quality company swallowed up by a corporation who ruined it. In their prime, though, A&M included not only the great music of Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, but these great artists:
