This feat happens more often than you might think--I certainly was surprised at the number. The reason is likely that new artists are "hungry" and at their most creative at their debut, writing and saving up their best material, then going into the recording studio for the first time. The greater challenge is continuing that success. Some of these artists could do it; most could not.
