By now in 1955, the movie Blackboard Jungle had been released, which focused new attention on the song "Rock Around The Clock" and prompted a re-released by Bill Haley & the Comets. While the song had been ignored just a year earlier, this time it clicked. In fact, it was the attention the song got in Blackboard Jungle 60 years ago this month that led to its re-release in May of 1955.
Since the song is so important to the birth of the Rock Era, we'll give you regular status reports on the attention being given to it 60 years ago. We'll celebrate its release date, and then of course kick off The Top 500 Songs of the Rock Era*, which is timed to conclude on July 9, 60 years to the day that "Rock Around The Clock" became the first rock & roll song to reach #1.
