Starting next month, I'll be presenting some of The Most Important Songs of the Rock Era*. These are just my opinion--there aren't any other lists that anyone has come up with, so this would be a first. What do I mean by "most important"?
Essentially, songs that provoke thought or that change the way people think about something, ideally songs that changed the world. So obviously the songs have to have good lyrics. There are plenty of good songs with good lyrics that won't qualify for this list because of subject matter. Some of The Most Important Songs of the Rock Era* could be considered positive, uplifting songs while others tell about negative things (they bring attention to problems and injustices.) And to properly salute each song, we'll feature one per day.
So that will be coming next month and is a good feature. Melodies are important too and most artists don't set out to change the world with every song they write. This is just a way of recognizing the songs that do. I'll update with a start date as soon as I know that but definitely something to watch for. The feature will run through December 25.
