Andy Williams Has Died

Legendary singer Andy Williams, one of the most-loved artists of his generation, died last night at his home in Branson, Missouri at the age of 84 after a year-long battle with bladder cancer.

Williams began his career in a quarter with his brothers, but quickly rose to prominence as a solo star in the 1950's. He hosted The Andy Williams Show for nine years beginning in 1962 as well as a dozen television specials from 1959-1987.

Through songs like "Moon River", which won him an Oscar for Best Song from a Motion Picture in 1962, and his album Days of Wine and Roses the following year, Williams reached superstar status.  He also became a favorite at Christmas with songs like "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year".   Williams' television show received high ratings and garnered three Emmy Awards.

Williams spent the last 20 years of his career performing at his own Moon River Theatre in Branson.
