Since you fine people who graduated in 1984 are approaching your 30th High School Reunion, we offer our assistance in planning your party. 1984 was an excellent year in music, and many of the songs have held up very well in the last thirty years. Keep in mind that this is the way these songs rank in 2014, not the way they did in 1984. It is also important to know that rankings can change monthly, if not weekly, as new sales and airplay figures come in.
What we are finding is the more an artist is on YouTube with their original songs, the more the song sells. Those artists who haven't quite figured out how to handle the internet (Prince, Don Henley, etc.) and reject sites like YouTube are slipping in popularity. Prince, for example, had two of the Top 10 songs of the year at the time, but they have slipped drastically. You would think that these artists would know the importance of music videos, since they released their songs at a time when they first caught on. Since MTV is no longer a factor, YouTube has taken over that role.
