Prelude to The Top 500 Songs of the Rock Era*: Scott McKenzie's "San Francisco"

Inside The Rock Era celebrates our fourth anniversary by giving you a prelude to our major music special, The Top 500 Songs of the Rock Era*.  Each day until the special begins on May 21, we will feature some of the truly great songs that are ranked just outside of The Top 500*.  Obviously, there are a lot more than 500 great songs, and we know that each of you have your own favorites.  So join us each day for the next two weeks as we lead up to the special that will blow your mind--The Top 500 Songs of the Rock Era*.

The theme for a generation determined to do things a different way, and to change the world, this artist once sang with John Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas in a group called the Journeymen.  While he never enjoyed another Top 10 hit after this classic, Scott McKenzie did go on to co-write the Beach Boys' #1 hit "Kokomo" in 1988.

Now, enjoy "San Francisco"...
